If the period of stay in Mexico will be longer than 180 days and less than 4 years, it is mandatory to apply for a Temporary Residence visa.
If the intention is to stay in Mexico for more than 4 years, you must apply for a Permanent Residence visa, complying with the following requirements:

- Passport.
- One photograph.
- Be nationals of the country in which you are requesting the visa or prove legal residence.
- Economic solvency.
- Pay the corresponding fees in the form and amount indicated by the Federal Law of Fees.
- Present the documents that prove one of the following cases: a) Being retired or receiving a pension. b) Having a family link (parents, minor children, siblings, cohabiting partners, minor stepchildren) with a Mexican or foreign person who has Permanent Resident status or a Permanent Residence visa. In the case of spouses or cohabiting partners, they will be documented with a Temporary Residence visa, after fulfilling the requirements, a condition that they must maintain for 2 years and subsequently apply to the National Institute of Migration (INM) for the permanent resident card.
- Pay the corresponding fees in the form and amount indicated by the Federal Law of Fees.
Note: The residence card that verifies your legal stay and allows you to remain in national territory must be processed within the following 30 calendar days from your entry into national territory.
